2022 BC Coastal Circle Tour

Our biggest trip of 2022 is a 15-day circle tour of a beautiful section on the southern BC Coast, with stays in Sidney, Nanaimo, Comox, Powell River, and Gibsons. 

The 530km (including ferries) circle we drew:

July 15 to 18: Sidney BC

• July 15: Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, first attempt at crab fishing off a pier, met a very friendly local crabber. Huge Dungeness and Red Rock crabs, bigger than any she’s seen.
• July 16: The day of crabs, David got his crabbing gear and joined us for 1 hour of the most intense crabbing ever, catching 11 legal Red Rocks. Tryon Beach in the afternoon.
• July 17: Town of Sidney, Glass Beach, Haunted Bookstore, Sidney Museum, Live Music, Elk/Beaver Lake Paddle, BBQ

• July 18: Departed Sidney. Visited BC Forestry Discovery Centre in Duncan en route to Nanaimo 

July 18 to 21: Nanaimo

• July 19: North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre, Rathtrevor Beach

• July 20: Nanaimo Harbour, Gabriola Island

• July 21: Butterfly World, Parksville Park, ferry to Powell River cancelled, stuck in Comox for the night

July 22: Bonus day in Comox, Goose Spit Park

July 23: Powell River: Seawalk, Hulks, and ferry to Southern Sunshine Coast

July 23 to 29: Southern Sunshine Coast

• July 24: Pender Harbour, spa at Madeira Park, crabbing at Irvine Landing

• July 25: Hopkins Landing for crabbing

• July 26: biking on the sea walk in Gibsons, Public Market, scouting Halfmoon Bay, evening walk to Secret Beach

• July 27: paddling Smuggler Cove, exploring Roberts Creek and Sechelt

• July 28: hiking Skookumchuck Narrows, dinner at Ruby Lake

• July 29: Ferry home!
